Join Disability Equality Scotland!
We are a membership led organisation where the experiences, insights and priorities of our members shape everything we do.
Disabled people understand the barriers they face better than anyone. By sharing their lived experience, our members help ensure those experiences are recognised in decisions that affect everyday life across Scotland.
From transport and housing to healthcare, accessibility and community life, Disability Equality Scotland works alongside its members on the issues that matter most. Together we highlight barriers and encourage improvements that make Scotland more accessible and inclusive.

As a national Disabled People’s Organisation, our work is guided by the knowledge and experiences of disabled people.
Members share their perspectives, highlight barriers and contribute to consultations that inform services, policies and decisions across Scotland. Bringing these insights together helps ensure disabled people’s experiences are considered where it matters most.
How members shape our work
Support and signposting:
We respond to enquiries from our members and help connect them with the right organisations, individuals or information. This helps people find advice, support and services that meet their needs.
Networking and connections:
We introduce members to key decision makers, organisations and networks. We also create opportunities for members to meet, share experiences and build relationships with others working to improve accessibility and inclusion.
Member experiences informing policy:
Our policy work is informed directly by our members. We believe disabled people are the experts in their own lives.
We respond to Scottish Government, parliamentary and other consultations on issues affecting disabled people. We regularly ask members to share their views on a wide range of policy topics, and these insights help shape our responses and advocacy work.
Members’ role in governance:
Our Annual General Meeting allows members to take part in the governance of Disability Equality Scotland.
Members can attend meetings, vote in elections and stand as candidates where eligible. Support is available to help members take part in these democratic processes.
